CAT 2018: Registration process to apply for IIMs


As per the past trend, the registrations for CAT 2018 exams generally begins in the secong week of August. The application window remains open for a period 40 days. All the interested and eligible CAT aspirants can apply for the exam during this period. So before you get registered to appear in one of the most coveted management exams, here are a few instructions that you must read to avoid any mistakes while registering.

Registration Guide for CAT 2018

The CAT website i.e. iimcat.ac.in is made available for the purpose of registration and the conducting body also release registration guide and video to help the aspirants in smooth registration process. Before you register for the exam, it is recommended that ‘do watch the video and read the registration guide’ which talks about the forms that you would need for registering online. After watching the video, you will feel comfortable while registering for CAT 2018. Any discrepancy can cost you re-registration and payment of fee again. This process might seem time taking but would help you avoid blunders during registration.

CAT Exam: Application fees

Another crucial aspect is the registration fee. This year the CAT conducting body i.e. IIM Lucknow has increased the application fee to Rs. 1800/- from the previous year CAT registration fee of Rs. 1700/-. For the other reserved category aspirants the application fee for CAT exams remains Rs. 900/- only.

You can pay the fee through online mode only. So keep the Credit card/ Debit Card/ Online Banking facility ready to make the payment after registration is done.

Mode of Registration for CAT 2018

CAT exam aspirants are supposed to apply entirely through the ONLINE mode only. IIM Lucknow has made it mandatory for the exam aspirants to get registered online and has saved them from the hassles of visiting the banks to make the fee payment.

Perks for Women Candidates

As per the recent guidelines, female candidates will get an opportunity to take the test in their domicile city. This move is aimed at encouraging the female candidates take the test eagerly and would also invite more participation from both the genders without a bias.

This perk is also aimed at enhancing the gender diversity in the IIMs. It is expected that after this announcement the absentee ratio among the female candidates to take the exam will gradually reduce.

When the first time this initiative commenced in 2015, it became a hit and an increase in the attendance of females was quite evident.  

Rectification of errors in CAT Registration form

Caution! Once you press the ‘SUBMIT button’ after filling all the details, you will not be able to make any changes in the CAT application form. Rectification of errors is not welcomed so it is advisable that you double check the filled in information or else you might end up re-registering and paying application fee of Rs. 1800/- again. Do not submit your CAT registration form unless you are sure of all the details put in the form.
